Understanding the Steps for Tax Preparation

As we approach tax season, we want to ensure a smooth and efficient process for your 2023 tax returns. Please take a moment to review the following steps and what we expect from you:

Understanding the Steps for Tax Preparation:

  1. Engagement Letters: We will be sending out engagement letters over the next couple of weeks. These will come from your portal.
  2. Please review and sign: Your proposed fee for the 2023 returns will be listed. You can review the explanation of our fee increases and let Aaron know if you have any questions.  Please note we trimmed back our client list to maintain our high-quality service exclusively for the clients receiving this email.
  3. Questionnaires: After signing the engagement letter, you’ll receive a questionnaire. Personal return information will be requested via Intuit Link, while business returns will receive an email questionnaire. (No change from the prior year)
  4. Document Submission: Take your time gathering your information. Once everything is submitted, we’ll confirm receipt.
  5. Preparation: We’ll begin working on your return within a few days and will send questions. Prompt and complete responses are crucial.
  6. Review: Aaron will personally review the return and discuss the results with you.
  7. Payment: Your payment will be processed via ACH from your designated bank account.
  8. Signatures: Your return will be sent for signatures through DocuSign.
  9. Confirmation: We’ll post the e-file acceptance confirmation to your portal.

How to Prepare for Tax Season:

  1. Email Whitelisting: Add StegnerCPA.com as a trusted domain to ensure our communications reach you. This will ensure you get emails from our team: Aaron, Alan Deanna, and Aryn.
    • You should also add app.canopytax.com to your whitelist.
  1. Canopy Portal: Set up your Canopy portal if you haven’t already. Please also consider installing the Canopy Client Portal app.
  2. Engagement Letter: Ensure it’s signed as part of your initial steps.
  3. Bank Information: Upload your bank details in the portal or provide a voided check.

Your cooperation and attention to these details will help us ensure a smooth and efficient tax return process. We appreciate your prompt action and are here to assist with any questions you may have.
